Project on Strengthening the Mediation System in Albania

The Albanian Foundation for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation of Disputes (AFCR) is providing its contribution as a partner in the ongoing project on “Strengthening the Mediation System in Albania”. The program that was initiated in January 2019 is being implemented by CSSP Center for Integrative Mediation based in Germany and with its office in Tirana, in partnership with the Albanian Ministry of Justice,  AFCR and National Chamber of Mediators, and it is financed by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The project is being implemented as an effort to support the development of mediation in Albania in general, with the focus on the implementation of the law on mediation adopted in 2011 and amended in 2018. The project comes at a time, when challenges are faced in the mediation area in Albania.

More specifically, the project is providing expertise in drafting sublegal acts to the mediation law and developing the curriculum for the mediators’ training, both initial and in-service training, etc.; awareness raising and capacity building for various stakeholders. Another main component of the project is establishing two mediation centers respectively in Tirana and Durrës and therefore have a specific focus on the establishment of functioning referral systems and mediation of cases in both districts, and also setting up an online  monitoring system for case management through mediation.
